William McCaughey is one of only three former Anchormen to total over 1,000 career points and grab over 1,000 career rebounds in Rhode Island College men’s basketball history. The Warwick, Rhode Island native lettered in basketball from 1962-65 and is third all-time in career rebounding with 1,129 career boards and is 13th with 1,229 career points. His 554 rebounds from the 1964-65 season still stands as the RIC record for a single season. He was named to RIC’s All-75th Anniversary Men’s Basketball Team in 2005.
McCaughey earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from Rhode Island College in 1967. He was awarded an M.A.T. degree from RIC in 1972. McCaughey went on to a distinguished 32 1/2-year teaching career in the Warwick Rhode Island School System working with the intermediate grades. He retired in June, 2005.
He resides in West Kingston, Rhode Island with his wife Judy ’67. They have one son, Joshua who was a two-time All-American in track and field while at Princeton University.
