Anchormen Defeat Regis, 97-77

Providence, R.I.--Junior guard Keyshaun Jacobs (Lynn, MA) and freshman guard Shion Darby (Peekskill, NY) combined for 61 points as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team sailed past Regis College, 97-77, at The Murray Center on Sunday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first half was dominated by the Anchormen.  RIC climbed to a 16-point, 30-14, lead just past the halfway point of the first half. After a Darby layup, the Anchormen lead reached 16 once again, 35-19, with under seven minutes left in the half.

• RIC took an 11-point, 43-32, lead into the halftime intermission. 

• The second half was controlled by RIC in its entirety. The hosts extended their lead to 18, 63-45, with 11:33 left in the second half and the game looked to be secured.

• Regis did not give up, as the Pride fought their way back into the game and whittled their deficit down to just five points, 73-68, with 5:19 left.

• Jacobs hit two clutch three-pointers and nailed a baseline runner to keep the Anchormen on top when the visitors threatened. 

• Jacobs finished with 33 points, two assists and two rebounds. Darby registered a double-double with 28 points and 11 assists, while also hauling down five rebounds. 

• Senior forward Ben Vezele (Providence, RI) registered a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Junior forward Tim Deng (Portland, ME) chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.

• Junior forward Marc Trinidad (Bronx, NY) led Regis with 19 points and nine rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 52 percent (36-for-69) from the field, 36 percent (9-for-25) from beyond the three-point line and 62 percent (16-for-26) from the free throw line. 

• The Pride shot 37 percent (27-for-73) from the field, 33 percent (6-for-18) from three-point range and 59 percent (19-for-29) from the foul line.

• RIC held the advantage on the glass, 48-41 and led in the assist column, 17-7.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open Little East play at home vs. UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday, Dec. 4 (7:30 p.m.).
