Anchorwomen Continue March Towards LEC Title With, 8-1, Win Over Salem State

Salem, Mass.--The Rhode Island College women's tennis team continued their march towards another Little East Conference Championship with an 8-1 win over Salem State on Saturday afternoon.

• The Salem State senior tandem Anastasia Startseva (Volgograd, Russia) and Meredith Macdonald (Lynn, MA) picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, defeating RIC freshman Jenna Lisi (Cranston, RI) and junior Laurel Ten Eyck (Warwick, RI)

• It was the first Div. III doubles loss of the season for the Anchorwomen.

• RIC sophomore Michaela Burr (Westerly, RI) and junior Emily Orticerio (Smithfield, RI) defeated the Salem State junior duo Hannah Dahrouge (South Hadley, MA) and Caroline Robitalle (South Hadley, MA), 8-0, at No. 2 doubles.

• RIC junior Hailey Raskob (North Smithfield, RI) and sophomore Clara Siegmund (Pomfret, CT) defeated Salem State junior Liana Angelis (Tewksbury, MA) and senior Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, MA), 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.

• Lisi defeated Startseva (6-0, 6-4) at No. 1 singles. Startseva is the reigning Little East Player of the Year.

• Burr defeated Dahrouge (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2 singles.

• Raskob defeated Robitalle (6-4, 6-3) at No. 3 singles.

• RIC junior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, MA) defeated Macdonald (6-3, 2-6, 6-1) at No. 4 singles.

• Siegmund defeated Floyd (7-5, 6-1) at No. 5 singles. 

• RIC junior Serena Bobola (Cranston, RI) defeated Salem State junior Alexis Alli (Beverly, MA) (6-0, 6-1) at No. 6 singles.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East play at home vs. Plymouth State on Tuesday, Oct. 8 (3:30 p.m.).
